Left to Right: Janine Bedford-Sims from
Sounds of Sims, Nancy Phalanukorn-Exec. Dir. of FRA, Joseph Malysko-Bradley
Beach Fire Dept., Ashley Desimone,
Rebecca Murphy-Dance Asst. and Gracianno “Jay” Bowman-dance teacher.
Teams for Teens
Teaming up with FRA, the Bradley Beach Fire Company generously donated
their hall to be decorated in a 50’s theme for the FRA celebration party
held on June 26, 2007. Dancing to “Sounds of Sims”, DJ and Karaoke
Services, this Neptune–based husband and wife team gave the students
plenty of great music to show off their dance skills. “Sounds of Sims”
joins the team donating their services as has Paul Hooker, who provided
the refreshments, making this a memorable night of fun and festivity for
all. Jay says, “It is so exciting for me to have watched all of the growth
and dancing that each of the students has learned. It was great to have
them show off their moves.” Jay always keeps everyone moving!
The group of teens and adults participate in the “Dance With Jay” classes
at Family Resource Associates in Shrewsbury, New Jersey throughout the
year. Jay Bowman, a lifelong resident of Bradley Beach, has been dancing
in the area since he was a child and last year, teamed up with FRA to hold
the classes. Jay teaches hip-hop classes at FRA for teens and adults with
disabilities as well as typically developing teens. The classes emphasize
dance, teamwork and social skills and run from September through June. FRA
provides early intervention, family support, recreation and assistive
technology services to people with disabilities since 1979. Also joining
the attendees were teens from the Challenged Youth Sports League.
