Celebrating "The Family Circle” Gala

Celebrating
"The Family Circle” Gala

A tremendous success!

The beautiful Shadowbrook Inn in Shrewsbury was the elegant setting for FRA’s fun event to celebrate those who mean so much to all the children we serve. Nearly 200 guests attended. The gift baskets (some of which contained items hand made by the talents of staff members) brought additional sparkle and fun to the evening.

Thanks to our most generous Bronze Sponsors: Credo Exports (the FRA Clothing Drive) and Ameriprise Financial. The support of additional sponsors helped to underwrite the costs of the desserts, entertainment, valet and cocktail hours. These generous sponsors include: The Sheeser Family; The Fuller Family; The Dumont Family; The Erskine Family; Muscle Maker Grill; The Harshfield Family; and DCH Kay Honda.

Visit our new Gala AD JOURNAL and see those who also helped sponsor this event; including Middletown Pediatrics, Celtic Charms, Collex Collision Experts, Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis, LLP, The Feeney Family, The Chancy Memorial Foundation, Abilities in Action, Steve & MK Harshfield, The Merritt Family and The Wilder Family.

Eileen Merritt has used many of FRA’s services since she was a newborn. Speaking that night, Eileen talked about how busy and fulfilling her life is as a result of her involvement with FRA. At 24 years old, she attends Brookdale College, and at FRA she takes hip-hop dancing and computer classes; and her life is very full. Eileen brought everyone to tears of joy with her speech, which you can read in full. Along with 5 other adults who have come through FRA’s program, Eileen joined DJ, Jay Bowman and tore-up the dance floor! Thanks Jay for all you do for the students, teaching over 60 students weekly hip-hop, couples and Latin dancing. They are looking great!

Maria Sant, parent and committee member, shared with the audience her memories of her son Michael as a baby, and the FRA therapists who helped them deal with the multiple challenges of having a child with hydrocephalus and related issues. You could feel her initial anguish – which turned to joyous amazement and inspiration for all the parents and grandparents as she recounted Michael’s wedding three years ago, also held at the Shadowbrook! At 28 years old Michael and his wife Serita now work and live successfully on their own in an apartment!

Bill Sheeser, Board President, encouraged the crowd to help strengthen FRA and to work with us to join in “Creating PossAbilities for People with disABILITIES” by signing up for a committee, help with the Board needs, donate in-kind services and spread the word!!!
