The Yardbirds

On Friday, October 7th, The Yardbirds made their only New Jersey appearance this year by putting on a benefit concert for Family Resource Associates, Inc., at the historic Strand Theater in Lakewood.

The concert featured an opening act by local favorite, the Chuck Lambert Band.  Lambert and his talented ensemble took to the stage by captivating the audience with their down and dirty blues. By warming up the crowd with such hits as ‘Help Me’ and ‘Leap of Faith’, the crowd knew they were in for a special night.

For fans who have not seen The Yardbirds in nearly five decades, the treat of the night was catching a hint of how the band must have sounded in the 1960’s. In front of a near capacity crowd, the band played with all the electricity of the era by reinventing how the electric guitar is played. There are few finer pleasures in rock than listening to “Heart Full of Soul” and “For Your Love” in a room of just under a thousand people.

Both bands played with verve and conviction, giving the audience that satisfactory feeling of seeing a fantastic show and by giving to such a great cause.

A special thank you goes out to Myke Scavone of The Yardbirds, Chuck Lambert and Dean Ross for coming up with and coordinating all of the logistics of the benefit concert.
