Ages 13 through young adult welcome.

LEAP:  An inclusive program open to students who can benefit from a learning environment with others having various types of disabilities, as well as typically developing students included as peer role models and volunteers.  The program's goal is to maintain or increase academic and real life skills through functional
activities.

ENROLLMENT:  Open to those 13 years through young adult.  Students will be clustered according to age/ability and have the option of attending any two weeks, or up to all eight weeks to take advantage of the many unique opportunities offered. Also available: 2-3 days per week, if attending all 8 weeks.


STAFFING:  LEAP is staffed with special educators, a speech pathologist, a computer specialist, and many support staff to provide a high quality experience for all students!  Teen volunteers help to insure everyone is included to their fullest ability and provide many opportunities for fun!

We accept Real Life Choice Funding. Be sure to check with your school or Self Directed Services Support Coordinator for funding for this program.

LIFE SKILLS COOKING CLASS:  Independence in the kitchen is the focus!  Activities will include food preparation including learning nutrition, creating menus, reading recipes, following cooking instructions, cooking with microwave, electric grill and toaster ovens. Shopping trip to local super market takes place to work on purchasing and money skills.

DAILY COMPUTER CLASS:  Designed to enrich language, reading, writing, math and money skills.  Academic computer software is used, as well as the internet to encourage learning and creativity.

LET’S GET PHYSICAL:  Enjoy weekly exercise with Paul Moss, a Licensed Physical Trainer, as well as weekly yoga, dancing and Wii activities to encourage rhythm, balance, movement and to keep fit.

SOCIAL SCENE CLASS:  Designed to enhance social skills and independence in everyday life utilizing role playing and modeling. The goal is to increase the student’s social awareness, social appropriateness and language skills.

SELF EXPRESSION CLASS:  Develop skills to make and promote a variety of products which can be given out as gifts or sold. Working with different mediums, students will work on goals that include following direction, decision making, understanding product worth and value, fine motor skills and money skills.

Outings planned throughout the summer will include bowling & mini golf!

Life Skills Lunch is included

Colleen's Summer Place honors the memory of Colleen Barry who loved to attend this program, and to her family who raised funds through the annual Barry-Bike-a-thon to make this program possible for many youngsters.
