EmployAbility Overview

Did you know that New Jersey is an Employment First state? This means the state is committed to ensuring that competitive employment is the first and preferred post-education activity for everyone, including people with developmental disAbilities. Therefore, all people with developmental disAbilities should be supported to work in local businesses within the community with a starting salary that matches at least the current minimum wage. This goal is becoming a reality as FRA creates new PossAbilities for adults with developmental disAbilities to join the workforce through our various EmployAbility programs or services.

Referrals for these services are typically provided through the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS), which is also the funding source. Experienced, vocational specialists are available to meet with individuals and families at a mutually convenient time and place for intakes, ongoing job development, assessment, employment skills and placement. Once employed, FRA will be onsite to provide individual on the job training until support is no longer needed to perform their job independently. During this time social security benefits counseling is also provided to the newly employed individual, after a referral is made by their DVRS counselor.

Supported Employment (SE):

FRA EmployAbility assists individuals with disAbilities in obtaining competitive employment in an integrated setting consistent with the skills, interests, and preferences of the individuals with ongoing support services that include Job Development, Job Coaching, and Long-Term Support.
